Himalayan cryosphere and associated hazards, Mountain geomorphology and surface processes

Dr. Rakesh Bhambri is an Associate Professor of Geography. He has been conducting research on the Himalaya since 2005, with a primary focus on understanding the impacts of climate change on glacier dynamics and associated hazards. His research approach integrates ground-based observations and archival data with advanced geospatial techniques. This integrated methodology is crucial for unravelling the complex behaviour of Himalayan glaciers, particularly in the context of global environmental change. Dr. Bhambri also served as  Scientific Editor of the Journal of Glaciology (published by Cambridge University Press) since January 2019. Dr. Bhambri has completed more than twenty research expeditions in the higher Himalaya–Karakoram region and has published about 45 Scopus-indexed (H-index: 25) papers in leading national and international journals. He has previously served as a Scientist at the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, Dehradun and as a Senior Lecturer at the South Asia Institute, Heidelberg University, Germany.
