Anu Kapur

Disasters and their Management in India.

Professor Anu Kapur has been on the faculty of the Department of Geography, Delhi School of Economics, Delhi University, since 1997. Consistent with her research interests, with special reference to Geography in India and Geography of India. Anu has several self- authored books, including Made Only in India: Goods with Geographical Indications, Routledge, London : Vulnerable India: A Geographical Study of Disasters, Sage, New Delhi, On Disasters in India, Cambridge University Press, New Delhi; Voice of Concern: Indian Geography, Concept New Delhi ; Indian Geography: A Future with a Difference, Allied , New Delhi ; and Paradise in Peril: An Ecological Profile of the Kashmir Valley, Allied , New Delhi. Besides research essays in the Economic and Political Weekly and other scholarly journals Anu has created maps and curated exhibitions on the University of Delhi, her alma mater. Professor Kapur is Fellow, Indian Institute of Advanced Studies, Shimla and Senior Fellow, Nehru Memorial Museum and Library,New Delhi. She is also a recipient of the R.N. Dubey Award for Leadership, 2001, of the Bhoovigyan Foundation as well as of the Amartya Sen Award for the Distinguished Social Scientists , 2012 , of the Indian Council of Social Science Research , New Delhi.

Suresh Chand Rai (Head of the Department)
M.Sc. (B.H.U.), Ph.D. (B.H.U.), Training in GIS (ICIMOD) and RS (NRSA, Hyderabad)
Watershed Management, Mountain Hydrology, Ecotourism and Conservation.

Prof. Suresh Chand Rai did his Masters in Geography (1979) and Doctor of Philosophy (1984) from Banaras Hindu University. His significant contributions are in the field of land and water resource management. His work has been outstanding on the Integrated Watershed Management in the Sikkim Himalaya have been recognized through the Soil and Water Conservation Society of USA, Award, 1999. The extensive studies made by Dr. Rai on various aspects of mountain hydrology have not only helped in understanding the structure and function of the systems, but also in finding out means of how to make the system sustainable. He has published more than 90 research papers in various impact factor/peer-reviewed journals and books (h-index-14). He has also authored 8 books to enrich the discipline. Since 2010, he is serving as Secretary General of National Association of Geographers, India (NAGI), the largest society of the Geographers in India.

Ram Babu Singh

Environment and Disaster Management, Urban Environment, Remote Sensing & GIS, Climate Change.

Prof. R.B. Singh is Professor of Geography since 2002. He is First Indian and Second Asian Elected Secretary General and Treasurer of the International Geographical Union (2018-22), Earlier served as Vice President, IGU during 2012-18 ; Presently Chair: Research Council, CSIR-CFTRI, Government. of India; Member International Science Council (ISC) Scientific Committee. He was awarded JSPS Fellowship and presented papers in more than 40 countries. He has to his credit 13 books, 34 edited volumes and more than 200 papers published in Journals-Climate Dynamics, Current Science, Singapore Jl. Of Tropical Geography, Energies, Theoretical and Applied Climatology, Environmental Science and Policy, Physical Geography, Advances in Meteorology, Physics and Chemistry of the Earth, Agriculture, Ecosystem and Environment, Hydrological Processes, Mountain Research and Development, Journal of Mountain Science. He has supervised 32 Ph.D. and 77 M.Phil students. In 1988 the UNESCO/ISSC (Paris) awarded Research and Study Grants Award in Social and Human Sciences.
