Aparajita De
M.Sc. (Gujarat University), Ph.D. (Gujarat University)
Urban and Media Studies, Historical Geography.

Her research largely falls within the scope of urban and media studies. Papers taught by her also focuses on similar themes and is closely interlinked to her research interests. Over the past decade she has been working persistently on the theme of constructions of space in everyday lives, having conducted research and published on the socio-spatial construction of Hindu-Muslim identities in the backdrop of communal violence. She also has a keen interest in examining notions and practices of urbanisms in South Asia vis-a-vis understandings of modernity, particularly within the current post-colonial and decolonial discourses. Her interest in media stems from her earlier research on 'geographical' imaginations, particularly how it is formed and informed by popular imaginations and has been working on new media to understand notions of space, borders and everyday cultural practices. Her current research looks into how space and time cross-cuts to produce 'places' in new media, particularly the post-colonial knowing of colonial Kolkata/Calcutta.
